Is there a totally free stretching app?

Few are free all the way through: most stretching apps are free to download and then either show ads or keep most of their routines behind a subscription, so check the In-App Purchases list on the App Store page before you install. Pause is not totally free either. Your first completed break is free without an account, and after that it is a Pause Plus subscription at US $4.99 a month or $12.99 every three months. If you want stretching at no cost at all, the written guides on this site and the routines published by the NHS are free to use.

How to tell before you download

“Get” on the App Store means free to download, not free to use. Look for the words “In-App Purchases” beside the button, then scroll to the Information section of the listing, where each purchase and its price is named. A minute there tells you more than the word “free” in an app’s title.

What is free with Pause

The download and your first completed break: a real guided routine with the written steps, the get-ready countdown and the timer, with no account and no card. There is no timed trial, so nothing starts billing on its own. The guides on this website are free on any device and need no sign-in.

Stretching with no app at all

The NHS publishes free flexibility and sitting exercise routines, and CCOHS lists stretches for the workstation. If the part you are missing is remembering to do them, a repeating reminder in your phone’s own Reminders or Clock app costs nothing.

Common questions

Why isn’t Pause free?

Pause is paid for by the Pause Plus subscription rather than by advertising. That is why there are no ads in it.

Can I buy Pause once instead of subscribing?

No. Pause Plus is a subscription, billed by Apple either monthly or every three months. There is no one-time purchase.

Does the free break start a trial?

No. The free break does not start a trial or a subscription. A subscription begins only when you choose a plan and confirm the purchase with Apple.
