AFTER SITTING · A GENTLE RESET
Stretches for sitting all day: start with a change of pace
When a working day has kept you in your chair, start with a comfortable change of position. Then choose a gentle stretch or, if suitable, an easy walk. You do not need an intense routine to make this moment a break.

Begin where you are comfortable
Put your work down before moving. If you want to stand, do so steadily with clear space around you. If standing is not suitable, stay seated on a stable chair with your feet supported. Take a moment to decide whether a stretch feels appropriate today.
Choose one area, then reassess
Start with the shoulders or chest using the instructions below. Keep the motion small and easy, and release before changing sides or moving to the next exercise. You do not need to stretch every muscle or complete a particular number of movements before returning to work.
Spread opportunities through the day
Instead of treating the end of the day as your only chance to move, look for a transition earlier on: after a meeting, before lunch or between tasks. Keep the first plan simple enough to repeat. An optional reminder can help you notice these opportunities when your work has no natural stopping point.
A stretch does not undo a day of sitting
These breaks are small opportunities for movement, not a way to cancel out prolonged sitting or replace broader activity. If discomfort repeatedly returns, consider individual advice about both your symptoms and your work setup. Avoid relying on a generic stretch page as treatment.

Common questions
Should I stretch harder if I feel stiff?
No. Use a comfortable range and avoid forcing the movement. Stop if it hurts; persistent pain deserves individual advice.
What if I cannot leave my chair?
The examples on this page can be performed seated when suitable for you. Use a stable chair and choose only movements that are comfortable.
